Luke 17:28 “It was the same as happened in the days of Lot…”
Can you feel it in the atmosphere? Can you sense that things are coming to a culmination? Can you hear the voice of God? Can you see it in the skies above? Can you observe it on the news?
I have a sneaking suspicion that Noah knew something was climaxing, that time was drawing closer with every nail he put in the ark. I tend to believe that Lot was aware of the increase of wickedness in his cities was about to be dealt with. Known and unknown prophets, pastors and people are sensing it in the atmosphere. Believers and unbelievers alike are noticing things that are making them wonder what is going on. We are living in a day that is not typical of our personal history, it is not normal for our generation. We have turned a corner, something has shifted and it is as though heaven is saying, Enough is Enough.
Jesus said, it was the same as happened in the days of Lot. Many know Lot separated from his uncle Abraham because they had some disputes among their two clans. Abraham went to the hills and Lot went to the cities. Most messages we have heard in church over the years has been about Abraham, for he is the father of our faith, so rightly so. But, there is something about Lot, which we need to learn if we are to not be found in a place that God intends to destroy.
Here is what we learn from Genesis 19:
- Lot was told 3 things by the angels of God (v.15)
- Hurry
- Arise,Take your wife and daughters
- Lest you be consumed and swept away in the iniquity and punishment of this city
- Lot’s son-in-laws thought he was joking when he spoke about destruction that was coming. (v.14)
- Lot lingered, but the angels seized him, for the Lord is merciful (v.16)
- Lot was given 4 commands by the angels of God (v.17)
- Escape for your life
- Don’t look behind you
- Don’t stop anywhere in the whole valley (Joel 3:14)
- Escape to the mountain (Isaiah 2:2-5)
- Lot said to the angels commands
- Oh not that my lords! (v.18)
- I cannot escape to the mountains (v.19)
- Let me go to Zoar (v.20-22)
It was the same as happened in the days of Lot, the warning has gone out from the Lord; many think it is a joke; leaders are lingering, but God has been merciful; new commands were given, but yet again compromises were chosen. What most people are unaware of is what Zoar means. Zoar, is the city that Lot asked to go to, because He could not handle going to the mountain of the Lord. Zoar means insignificant; to be made small; without influence. Many people are choosing Zoar because it is not as far away from the cities as the mountains are, but what they don’t realize is they are choosing to be insignificant, small and without influence.
This is the last warning, before the battle begins. There is still a very short amount of time to get to the mountain of the Lord, but you must hurry, you must arise and take others with you, you must not look behind you, you cannot stop anywhere in the valley. The signs are in the heavens, the sound is on the earth, the truth is, God has said enough is enough, a line has been drawn in the sand and you still have time to choose. The same two choices are set before you, “I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants” (Deuteronomy 30:19). The good news is you have a choice, learn the lesson from Lot, for this may be the last warning before the war and we need you on the mountain.
